Althams Traditional Beef

We mainly select from the following British born sired breeds of cattle; Hereford and Angus, the meat has exceptional eating quality; the marbling and creamy fat ensures tenderness and flavour. This beef is traditionally aged/ dry aged from 14 to 28 days, dependant on customer requirements and carries the Althams Quality Assured mark, hand selected by our team.

Althams Traditional English Lamb

Produced and traditionally prepared from Eblex farm assured Lamb. We mainly select from the following British born breeds of sheep: Suffolk & Texal cross. We also stock the following during their season; The Herdwick Mutton: The Herdwick is a breed of domestic sheep native to the Lake District, The name "Herdwick” is derived from the Old Norse herdvyck, meaning sheep pasture. (season Oct – March).

Red Bank Farm Salt Marsh Lamb: is reared on the marshes of Morecambe Bay where the Sheep and Lambs are allowed to graze freely. The tide washed marshes support an abundance of salt tolerant grasses and herbs such as samphire, sparta grass, sorrel, sea lavender and thrift. These help to give the lamb it’s tender texture and unique light flavour. (Season July – Oct).

Althams Traditional Regional English Pork

Supplying a regionally produced and traditionally prepared BPEX farm assured pork. We also incorporate breeds such as The Gloucestershire Old Spot: The Gloucestershire Old Spot is a large meaty animal with a broad and deep body and large hams. Its white coat has large clearly defined black spots. The Gloucester is renowned for its fat cover, making superb crackling!

Althams Traditional Poultry

Our main poultry supplier is based in Cumbria, providing a farm assured product for our team to butcher. At Christmas our North Essex based Free Range Turkey producer supplies us with a product which has won the ‘blue ribbon’ Best Premium Christmas category for their English Rose Free Range Bronze Hen.
