 Food Production Team Leader (Bespoke, Sausage, Burger)

Due to our continual growth and investment we are recruiting a Team Leader - Food Production to join our operations team at our factory in Morecambe leading the bespoke, sausage and burger production team.

Your mastery

  • The Team Leader monitors and manages all aspects of performance on the shift for which he/she is responsible. Key areas of performance in this respect include:
    • Hygiene and food safety
    • Raw material yields
    • The minimisation of waste, including stock rotation
    • The quality and presentation of the product
    • Plan attainment
    • Efficiency and cost of the department – the rate of production relative to the hours worked
    • The performance and behaviour of staff
    • Housekeeping
  • Adherence to health and safety policies and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment
  • The resources available to the department are proactively managed, with careful prioritisation and allocation of tasks, so that they are used as efficiently as possible.
  • The Team Leader works closely with the Maintenance Team ensuring that all machinery failures and potential failures are speedily communicated to the Maintenance Team.
  • The Team Leader works closely with the Factory Manager, QA Manager and Quality Controller to ensure that all factory processes and procedures are fit for purpose and are respected and adhered to by all members of staff.
  • The Team Leader proactively identifies and anticipates problems which are affecting or could affect the efficiency and effectiveness of the department. Where the Team Leader is unable to address any of these, they are proactively communicated to the Factory Manager. To include:
    • Goods not arriving on time
    • Quality of incoming goods
    • Adequacy of stock levels
    • Inability to complete the plan
  • Anything else which might affect the efficiency and effectiveness of the Bespoke Product, Sausage & Burger Rooms or the effective operation of the factory as a whole
  • The pre-agreed hygiene and housekeeping standards are consistently achieved.
  • Handovers between shifts are carefully managed so that the level of disruption is minimised.
  • The Team Leader contributes to the efficient and effective implementation of necessary changes within the department by supporting the Factory Manager and communicating effectively with the members of his or her team, both individually and collectively.
  • Whenever problems occur, root causes are identified and corrective and preventative actions agreed and implemented so as to minimise the probability of any recurrence.
  • Every effort is made to support the development of new products within the company. Where the Team Leader perceives a conflict between this and efficiency within the department, advice is sought from the Factory Manager.
  • Inductions and performance management of the team.

The key ingredients

To succeed in this role you will need to have previous leadership experience ideally within a food manufacturing environment (preferably meat). Hours would be 8:30am until 5:30pm Monday to Friday.

 

Industrial Cleaner

 We currently have a vacancy for a cleaner within our Hygiene Team.

Your mastery

  • To clean the factory internally and externally at the end of production
  • Follow cleaning checklist to ensure cleaning standards are maintained
  • Use of a power wash to clean premises
  • You must be able to comply with the necessary hygiene and health and safety, COSHH regulations

The key ingredients

The ideal candidate will have previous industrial cleaning experience (preferably food manufacturing), good awareness of health and hygiene regulations. You must be physically able to use a power wash machine.

The role would be working from 4am until 10am (Monday to Friday) and 4am until 3pm (Saturday) 40 hours each week. A deep clean is required on a Saturday. Your holiday entitlement would be 33 days (inclusive of bank holidays)

 

 

Transport Team Leader

Your mastery

Due to our continual growth and investment we are recruiting a Transport Team Leader to join our logistics team at our office in Morecambe.

Your responsibilities:-

  • Staffing levels, including agency staff, holiday cover, overtime etc., are planned and managed, in a proactive, preventative and forward looking way, with support from the Logistics Manager.
  • All aspects of performance within the transport operation, including and the performance and behaviour of staff, with the effect that:
    • Both vehicle and driver appearance and cleanliness consistently meet the pre-defined standards.
    • Routes are carefully planned so as to achieve the optimal balance between efficiency and customer service.
    • Journey times and fuel consumption are minimised subject to achieving the pre-agreed level of customer service.
    • Customer deliveries are consistently on time.
  • Employee absence is proactively managed in accordance with the agreed absence management procedure.
  • All drivers are polite, courteous and helpful to customers at all times.
  • Any customer or market intelligence collected is proactively and speedily communicated to the Transport Manager.
  • The Transport Team Leader works closely with the Logistics and HR Manager to make sure that staff are provided with training and development.
  • The Team Leader supports with induction of new team members, as requested.
  • The Team Leader shares his or her knowledge and experience with all team members and ensures that all team members are taught, trained and coached in best practice.
  • To actively deliver training to staff on e.g. driving efficiently, customer service skills and maximising driver performance.
  • All job functions have appropriate cover and no situations exist where only one employee is able to carry out a particular task.
  • Cover is arranged in good time for all known absences and holidays.
  • Day to day personnel issues are dealt with quickly and professionally, with the involvement of HR or Logistics Manager as appropriate.
  • Whenever problems occur or complaints are received, root causes are identified and corrective and preventative actions agreed and implemented so as to minimise the probability of any recurrence.
  • Collections of both products and cash take place, as requested, in an efficient and effective fashion.
  • The pre-agreed housekeeping and health and safety standards are consistently achieved.

The key ingredients

This role would ideally suit someone who has leadership experience within a transport or logistics department ideally within food manufacturing (although not essential). Class C License would be an advantage. A clean driving License is required. A basic understanding of Transport Legislation and Nil Defecting systems. Experience with Excel and Office. Experience of Telematics Systems (advantageous).

Your mastery

We are seeking an experienced Class C Driver with full CPC to delivery products from our Head office in Morecambe to sites across the UK.

Your responsibilities:-

  • To deliver products and carry out collections on the return journey to deadlines
  • To drive safely and courteously representing the Althams brand at all times
  • To carry out basic manual handling techniques
  • To drive in line legal requirements
  • Provide great customer service skills

The key ingredients

We are looking for a Class C Driver who has previous experience, is physically fit, efficient and can demonstrate a positive attitude.

This role would be working on a casual contract, therefore would suit someone who is interested in part time hours.

 Multi-Drop Driver (North Region)

QA Officer

 

 

Your mastery

Reporting into the Technical Manager you will support with all aspects of quality assurance so that the best possible procedures are in place which will allow top quality, safe and legal products to be produced at all times.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the Technical Manager to ensure that all company procedures and ensures that these are up to date and fit for purpose at all times.
  • Write and prepare the technical element of product specifications.
  • All company procedures are meticulously documented, monitored, reviewed and revised as necessary.
  • Maintains all aspects of the quality management system, including internal and external audits.
  • Supports with ensuring the results of all audits are acted upon and liaises appropriately with the managers responsible in this respect.
  • Supports with ensuring that all company marks and accreditations are successfully retained on an annual basis.
  • Supplier audits, including the verification of alleged accreditations, are religiously carried out in accordance with the pre-determined timetable and company procedure.
  • All complaints are reviewed and both corrective and preventative actions agreed and implemented which will not only solve the initial problem but also prevent it from happening again in the future.
  • Liaises proactively with suppliers and customers on technical issues.
  • Technical inductions are carried out for new employees and those needing refresher training.
  • Supports the Technical Manager to ensure that all aspects of food safety and testing in a thorough, diligent and professional manner.
  • Technical input to new product development and product changes.
  • Assists the Factory Manager in the professional and effective identification and management of hazards and critical control points.
  • Ensures that complete, accurate and thorough records are kept of all company processes affecting the quality of the product so that full traceability is achieved.
  • Keeps up to date and networks with other industry professionals so as to keep abreast of best practice in quality management.
  • Monitors and reports on all aspects of quality performance within the factory.
  • Works closely with the Factory and Technical Manager to ensure that all factory procedures are fit for purpose and are

     respected and adhered to by all members of staff.

The key ingredients

This role would ideally suit someone who has quality assurance experience within food manufacturing. A food safety Level 3 and Haccap Level 3 qualification are a minimum requirement. A food science or related degree would be desirable.

 Quality Controller

Your mastery

Reporting into the Technical Manager, you will manage all aspects of quality control within the company so that any incoming or outgoing product which does not conform to the pre-agreed standards is identified and appropriate corrective action taken.

You will provide advice and support in the management and resolution of customer complaints so that not only are solutions found quickly for the customer but also preventative measures put in place to prevent any future recurrence. You will lead and provide advice on the development of the company specification manual.

You will proactively support the maintenance and development of the company’s reputation as an excellent butcher and a great place to work.

Key responsibilities:

  • To undertake a series of factory production line audits to gather real time measurements of the production process inputs and outputs, from all stages of the process starting at raw materials receipt, through recipe weighing/mixing, freezing/defrosting, blast freezing, cutting, and packing.
  • All incoming and outgoing products and raw materials, including packaging and labelling, are religiously inspected on a daily basis.
  • To communicate with suppliers when the raw materials specifications are not met and to monitor the actions taken by suppliers to eliminate or reduce recurrence to acceptable levels.
  • To provide expert advice on the suitability of raw materials to achieve the desire quality and yields.
  • To provide expert advice on New Product Development and participate in the preparation of NPD samples.
  • To deliver training to staff on quality aspects to ensure they meet the desired quality and expected yield.
  • To report actual yields and quality of the finished products on a on a weekly basis against the expected yield and quality of finished product.
  • To carry out organoleptic tests on meat cuts, meat products, meat preparation against its final product specification & QAS.
  • To monitor the performance of the butchers to ensure they are preparing products to customer specification, if there are any concerns to raise these with the appropriate Team Leader and Technical Manager.
  • To lead and develop a Finished Product Specification Manual based on recognised industry guidelines with the support of relevant colleagues.
  • To provide expert input in the selection of raw materials.
  • To identify areas for process improvement and potential cost efficiencies in the selection of raw materials and processing.
  • To prepare products and take photographs are prepared, as requested by the Technical Manager.
  • To liaise proactively with the Purchasing Manager.
  • To liaise proactively with the Sales Team to attend visits to customers, as requested and carry out demonstrations.
  • To provide advice and support in the management and resolution of customer complaints so that not only are solutions found quickly for the customer but also preventative measures put in place to prevent any future recurrence.
  • To liaise proactively with the Factory Manager and the Technical Manager with regard to any necessary corrective and/or preventative actions.
  • To be a proactive and constructive member of the Althams Team and to proactively support the maintenance and development of the company’s reputation as an excellent butcher and a great place to work.
  • Factory tours are carried out, as requested by the Directors or the Factory Manager.
  • The Quality Controller is a role model for the company values and behaviours and champions ongoing initiatives to perpetuate and develop the desired company culture.

This role would ideally suit someone who has worked within Quality Control within food manufacturing (ideally meat production). You must know what you’re looking for and be able to influence our team of experienced Butchers therefore previous experience as a Chef or Butcher is preferred. You must be highly organised, demonstrate attention to detail and have excellent communication skills. You must be IT literate able to use Word and Excel.
