 Goods In Team Leader

Your mastery

Reporting into the Factory Manager you will lead and manage the team of people within the Goods In department so that the dual objectives of excellent customer service and a high level of efficiency and cost effectiveness are simultaneously achieved. To be a proactive and constructive member of the Factory Management Team and to proactively support the maintenance and development of the company’s reputation as an excellent butcher and a great place to work.

Key responsibilities:

  • The Team Leader monitors and manages all aspects of performance on the shift for which he/she is responsible.
  • Incoming deliveries are planned and organised so that Goods In can operate in an efficient and effective fashion. The Team Leader liaises closely with the Purchasing Manager in this respect.
  • All of the necessary checks are made on all incoming deliveries:
  • Any deliveries which do not meet the company’s quality standards or which were not ordered by the company are immediately returned to the supplier.
  • Goods received are stored in the correct location.
  • Safe working practices are in place for all operations within the department and are employed by all staff at all times.
  • Constructive and respectful working relationships are maintained with suppliers at all times
  • The resources available to the department are proactively managed, with careful prioritisation and allocation of tasks, so that they are used as efficiently as possible.
  • The Team Leader works closely with the Maintenance Team ensuring that all machinery failures and potential failures are speedily communicated to the Maintenance Team.
  • The Team Leader works closely with the Shift Manager, QA Manager and Quality Controller to ensure that all Goods In processes and procedures are fit for purpose and are respected and adhered to by all members of staff.
  • The pre-agreed hygiene and housekeeping standards are consistently achieved.
  • The Team Leader contributes to the efficient and effective implementation of necessary changes within the department by supporting the Factory Manager and Shift Manager and communicating effectively with the members of his or her team, both individually and collectively.
  • Whenever problems occur, root causes are identified and corrective and preventative actions agreed and implemented so as to minimise the probability of any recurrence.
  • The Team Leader contributes to the training and induction of new team members, as requested.
  • Performance and absence management of teamo At any time when the Team Leader is not actively engaged with his or her responsibilities as a Team Leader, he or she is a productive, constructive and efficient member of the Goods In Team.

Transport Manager

Your mastery

Reporting into the Operations Director you will lead and manage the team of people within the Transport department so that the dual objectives of excellent customer service and a high level of efficiency and cost effectiveness are simultaneously achieved. To be a proactive and constructive member of the Management Team and to proactively support the maintenance and development of the company’s reputation as an excellent butcher and a great place to work.

Key responsibilities:

  • The Transport Manager proactively communicates the company’s vision, strategy and values to all members of staff and ensures that all employees understand how their individual efforts contribute to the achievement of overall company objectives.
  • The Transport Manager ensures that all staff are in roles for which they are suitable qualified and trained and that they are able to meet the pre-agreed performance standards.
  • Staffing levels, including agency staff, holiday cover, overtime etc., are planned and managed, in a proactive, preventative and forward looking way, with support from the HR Manager.
  • The Transport Manager keeps up to date and networks with other industry professionals so as to keep abreast of best practice.
  • The Transport Manager monitors and manages all aspects of performance within the transport operations.
  • The fleet of vehicles is carefully and proactively managed.
  • The Transport Manager works closely with the QA Manager to ensure that all transportation procedures are fit for purpose and are respected and adhered to by all members of staff.
  • The pre-agreed housekeeping and health and safety standards are consistently achieved.
  • The Transport Manager drives and facilitates the generation of new ideas to improve performance.

  • Any customer or market intelligence collected is proactively and speedily communicated to the Operations Director.
  • The Transport Manager communicates proactively with members of the sales team, whenever necessary.
  • People and performance management of transport team.
  • The company’s communication, involvement and engagement strategy is implemented proactively. The Transport Manager works closely with the HR Manager in this respect.
  • Manages the North and South operations through the two Team Leaders.

Regional Sales Manager (East Lancs and Manchester)

Your mastery

The key purpose of this role will be to grow sales with new and existing customers in the targeted market segments and to ensure that all customers for which the Regional Sales Manager is responsible receive excellent customer service. To be a proactive and constructive member of the Sales Team and to proactively support the maintenance and development of the company’s image and reputation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • A thorough understanding of the market, customers and competition in the market segments for which he or she is responsible.
  • Thinks proactively about the markets in which he or she is working, looks ahead and identifies opportunities which could be used to drive sales growth.
  • Identifies, researches, develops and converts new targets on a regular basis. Specific and purposeful strategies and action plans are created in order to achieve this. Any roadblocks which the Regional Sales Manager cannot remove are immediately raised with the Operations Director.
  • Strong, mutually beneficial relationships are built and maintained with existing and new customers.
  • Networks proactively with knowledgeable and influential people in the industry who can provide valuable market information and/or influence customers and targets to buy from Althams.
  • Understands the company’s products, heritage and capabilities in depth, along with the farming methods employed and the provenance of the company’s products and uses this knowledge to sell the company and what it has to offer, proactively and effectively.
  • Attends a variety of company events, including trade shows and exhibitions, and sometimes involving an overnight stay, as requested by the Operations Director.
  • Makes sure that each customer’s requirements are met and shouts loudly if they are not and the solution to the problem is outside his or her control.
  • Any feedback, whether positive or negative and any complaints from customers are acknowledged, appreciated and viewed constructively and action taken to address the issue wherever possible.

To be successful in this role you will be a true foodie and must have had similar sales experience ideally within food. You will have excellent financial and commercial awareness, the ability to network effectively externally within the industry and be comfortable with driving results in a fast paced environment.

Appentice Customer Support Advisor

We are seeking a Apprentice Customer Support Advisor to join our team in Morecambe. This is a fantastic opportunity for a colleague who is keen to deliver great customer service, work for a growing business and earn and you learn!

 Key responsibilities will include:

  • To process customer orders taken over the phone, email, fax and answer phone and enter the details accurately onto our system

We are seeking a Customer Support Advisor to work during the evening from 7:00pm until 11:15pm over 4 nights per week (excluding Saturday). This is a fantastic opportunity for a colleague who is keen to deliver great customer service and work for a growing business.

We are seeking an experienced Butcher to join our day shift operations team at our plant in Morecambe.

Your mastery

  •   To be responsible for the correct standard and specification of meat, as per the order sheet system and/or specification sheet, and the timely despatch of the orders.
  • To ensure the customer orders are completed fully each day in an efficient and motivated manner.
  • To ensure there is no deterioration of products and prepared stock, taking care to select oldest stock first for preparation of order.
  •  At the close of business ensuring all stock and products are stored correctly, according to date, in the appropriate chiller or freezer.
  • At all times to be suitably dressed and wear all the protective clothing and equipment supplied by the Company, and to be responsible for these items.
  • To ensure cleanliness of the production areas and to abide all Health and Hygiene rules as laid out by the Company at all times.
  • To use the equipment for its purpose at all times, including colour coded equipment.
  •  To ensure that the correct procedures of manual handling and packing of meat are followed at all times.
  •  To ensure all machinery and equipment are stripped down and rinsed ready for the Factory Cleaner.

We are seeking a Packer/Order Despatch to join our expanding day shift operations team at our plant in Morecambe. 

Your mastery

  •   To ensure the correct procedures of manual handling and packing of meat at all times.
  •     To inform the Packing Room Supervisor of any products which are not in stock so the necessary actions can be taken.
  •  To ensure that the correct quality and standard of meat as specified on the customer order is adhered to at all times.
  • To ensure all meat is labelled correctly and placed with care and consideration to other products which are placed into trays/boxes/bags etc.
  • To take care when strapping and labelling boxes and make sure all boxes are placed with the customer case sticker pointing to the outside of the pallet when stored.
  •  To ensure there is no deterioration of products and prepared stock.
  • At the close of business ensuring all stock and products are stored correctly, according to date, in the appropriate fridge or freezer.
  • To ensure that all vans are loaded efficiently and accurately and promptly according to the start time of each individual Driver.
  • To ensure all machinery and equipment are stripped down and rinsed ready for the Factory Cleaner and the necessary Cleaning Procedure Sheet has been signed.
  •   At the end of each shift place all dirty protective clothing into the dedicated bins and all aprons and wellies are clean and stored in the correct area.
  • At all times to be suitably dressed and wear all the protective clothing and equipment correctly as supplied by the Company, and to be responsible for these items.
  •  Ensuring cleanliness of the packing area and abide by all Health and Hygiene and Health and Safety procedures as laid out by the Company at all times.
  •   If and when necessary work across other departments when required.

Cleaner (Days and Nights available)

We are seeking a Cleaner to join our expanding team at our plant in Morecambe. 

 Your mastery

  • This role would involve cleaning trays to standards to ensure the team receive them throughout the day.
  • The trays must be cleaned by using the tray washer and any excess water should be cleared.
  • Preparing and cleaning the factory environment for production in line with standards.
  • You must be able to comply with the necessary hygiene and health and safety regulations.

The role working days will be from11am until 8pm (Monday to Friday)

The role working nights will be from 4pm – 2.30am ( Mon – Thursday) and  8pm – 7am (Friday)

The key ingredients

For both roles previous cleaning experience is required ideally within a food manufacturing environment.

Apprentice Opportunities

We are currently going to be recruiting for a number of apprentice roles across the factory to support with growing our team internally. The Apprentice opportunities will be in Food Manufacturing (factory operations) and Butchery. Your development will be fully supported through our training Academy by being on a recognised training course for the area of work your in. Opportunities within the factory will be available on our day shift 7am until 4pm (40 hours per week) and nights (for over 18's only).
