Althams butchers has, and always will be, one large family with true family values at its heart.

As one of the oldest and largest independent family owned butchers in the country, Althams has and always will be one big family, with true family values at its heart - Many of the staff throughout the business have been with us for decades, Gordon one of our long serving butchers even remembering Rick's first day on the job.

We believe in the value of encouraging and growing our team, challenging them and inspiring them to excel at their skills so that they feel comfortable to stand by us year in, year out and that gives us our unique depth of knowledge in every bite of our meat.

    James Altham

    MANAGING DIRECTOR

    The title says it all, strategic decisions! The main areas of purchasing and planning are picked up by myself to make sure the team can deliver the best product and service to our customers.

    Dad had Rick and myself on the farm or in the butchers since we were old enough to walk and use a yard brush!

    My favourite cut of meat are definitely the Lamb Cutlets paired with a nice mint gravy!

    Rick Altham

    OPERATIONS DIRECTOR

    I’ve worked on the farm and in the factory since I was 8 years old when my father used to call me down to help him make sausages and string up gammons.

    At the young age of 17, I began working at Althams Factory in Morecambe on the shop floor. A number of the team I work alongside today were present on my first day in the family business and I have learned some great skills from them.

    My favourite cut of meat is the dry-aged tomahawk. It’s sensational!

    HEAD OF SALES AND MARKETING

    I have been a part of the family for 21 years which is testament to the great environment that we have cultivated here at Althams Butchers.

    In my role, I oversee all of our sales and marketing activity ensuring synergy across both departments, the growth of our great family-run business, and that our customers are delighted with our products and service.

    My favourite cut of meat is the butcher's dry-aged rib eye steak and I enjoy my steak paired with chunky home-made chips and pepper sauce.

    REGIONAL SALES MANAGER

    In my role I work with our new and existing customers to deliver on all of their requirements and ensure that whether for their own enjoyment or that of their customers, every mouthful be memorable.

    I have been a part of the Althams family for 8 years and enjoy building strong relationships with all of our customers.

    My favourite cut of meat is the dry aged rib eye and I love pairing it with fries, onion rings, on-the-vine tomatoes, and asparagus.

    HEAD OF CUSTOMER SERVICE

    My role includes a range of administrative tasks, taking customer orders, dealing with any customer queries, assisting with the purchasing for the company and building relationships with suppliers.

    I am also responsible for our marketing and manage our social media channels and other marketing activities.

    My favourite cut of meat is the corner cut topside served with lots of roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and vegetables, absolutely swimming in gravy.

    CUSTOMER SERVICE & TRANSPORT COORDINATOR

    I am the first line of contact that customers come in contact with when calling Althams, I input all the orders onto the system as well as performing various other office admin jobs.

    I have been working at Althams Butchers for just under 2 years and really enjoy my role and the people I work with every day.

    My favourite cut of meat are the salt and pepper chicken fillets, and I love dicing them up in a wrap and combining them with home made chips. Yummy!

    CUSTOMER SUPPORT ADVISOR

    In my role I take care of any queries our customers might have. I also inform our customers of any new specials we might have and any seasonal offers.

    I have been a part of the Althams family for nearly 2 years and thoroughly enjoy talking to our customers every day and giving the best service I can.

    My favourite cut of meat is the pork belly and it pairs really well with gratin dauphinois.

    DELIVERY DRIVERS

    We load and deliver orders throughout the North-West of England ensuring that our customers’ orders arrive in good time and with the freshness and quality they expect.

    Combined, we have been a part of the Althams family for over 36 years and we still enjoy making those deliveries every day and meeting our customers.

    We both absolutely love a good sirloin steak with fresh chunky chips and vegetables.
